Recognizing Common Types of Melasma
Recognizing Two Common Types
of Freckles
Epidermal Melasma
Melasma appears on the outer layer of the skin.
It has a light brown color and is often found on the cheekbones and forehead.
Dermal Melasma
This type of melasma appears as individual spots with deeper roots under the skin.
It is common among women going through menopause.
Mixed Melasma
A combination of both epidermal and dermal melasma, usually darker in color and more difficult to treat.
Superficial Freckles
Freckles usually appear as light brown or grayish spots on the skin’s surface,
often on areas exposed to sunlight.
They become darker in summer and fade slightly in winter.
This type is hereditary and common among people with fair skin.
Deep Freckles (Dark Spots)
Freckles with darker brown or black tones that do not fade even in cold weather.
They can appear at any age, often hereditary, and are more common in people frequently exposed to sunlight.
